Legoland California's Galacticoaster Wins Top Theme Park Honor (patch.com) — Carlsbad residents have a new claim to fame as Legoland California's Galacticoaster has been named the top theme concept in the prestigious 2026 Golden Ticket Awards. The innovative family coaster, centerpiece of the new Lego Galaxy land in Carlsbad, lets riders design digital spacecraft that appear during the ride, highlighting the park's growing reputation for imaginative, family-friendly thrills.
   

2. Driver Arrested On Murder, DUI Charges After Pedestrian Killed In Carlsbad Hit-And-Run (patch.com) — Carlsbad police are investigating a deadly hit-and-run on Carlsbad Boulevard that left a pedestrian dead and led to the arrest of a 26-year-old Escondido man on suspicion of murder and DUI. Investigators used license plate readers, community tips, and regional air support to track down the vehicle, and are asking anyone with information to contact the department's traffic investigator.
   

3. Shadow Mountain church moves to Carlsbad to make way for housing (thecoastnews.com) — Shadow Mountain Community Church's longtime Encinitas congregation has officially moved its Sunday services to Carlsbad's Pine Avenue Community Center, creating a new North County Campus for local worshippers. The small congregation plans weekly 10 a.m. services with familiar traditions like coffee, doughnuts, and a chili cookoff, after leaving its former site to make way for a 51‑unit housing project.
   

4. Local flight instructor provides insight into deadly LA news helicopter crash (10news.com) — A Carlsbad-based chief flight instructor from Civic Helicopters is helping explain what might have gone wrong in the recent deadly Los Angeles news helicopter crash, based on cockpit alarms, video and rotor damage. She points to signs of dangerously low rotor RPM and loss of lift, while stressing that investigators still need time to determine the official cause.
   

5. Notebook: Ex-Chargers highlight Metro Conference HOF class; Vista hoops coach steps down (sandiegouniontribune.com) — Carlsbad High School's girls basketball team will represent the city at the Amsterdam Holiday Showcase in New York this December, facing Colonie of Albany and Foxboro from Massachusetts.
