Paws And Peruse: Castro Valley Cat Rescue To Host Yard Sale Fundraiser On Sunday

CASTRO VALLEY, CA — More than 25 years ago, a cat-loving neighbor once got Deborah MacDonald to help care for the local felines in their East Bay neighborhood.

Since then, MacDonald, a retired medical social worker, has made it part of her life's work to help and rescue as many cats as possible.

In 2022, with the backing of a person who had previously made a "generous" donation to help her buy cat food, MacDonald started a nonprofit: Angus & Friends Cat Rescue.

But caring for these cats can be expensive, and medical bills can add up, MacDonald said.

So on Sunday, the nonprofit is having a yard sale fundraiser, one of its many events to help raise funds that go directly back into its rescues.

The yard sale will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2360 Farley St., Castro Valley.

"This is one of our smaller events, but it is one of our better events," MacDonald told Patch. "It's just a mishmash of different things."

MacDonald says there will be a variety of items, including "very nice women's clothes," household items, and of course, cat items. A few kittens up for adoption will also be at the yard sale fundraiser, MacDonald said.

MacDonald asks that anyone who can't make it to the yard sale consider donating to the nonprofit through its website or volunteer to foster a kitten.

"I always say it takes a village," MacDonald said. "Help us support these kitties."
