It also points you to nearby native plant sources, including Floral Native Nursery north of Chico, Harvests and Habitats in Chico, and the annual Master Gardener plant sale, plus a local hotline for gardening questions. 
2. Chico declares emergency as crews clear Lindo Channel encampments (krcrtv.com) — Facing critical fire danger around Lindo Channel, Chico officials cleared dozens of encampments and tons of debris after declaring a local emergency earlier this month. City crews offered shelter to people living in the area and plan continued restoration, framing the effort as balancing public safety with connecting unhoused residents to services and safer options.
3. Chico plans camping enforcement at three locatoins (actionnewsnow.com) — City officials in Chico plan to close three public areas to camping and begin enforcing anti-camping ordinances after Aug. 31, while offering limited shelter space at Genesis and Torres Community Shelter. Outreach teams will verify camp counts with Legal Services of Northern California, and enforcement will pause for people who can't access a bed once shelters are full.
4. Gallagher raises privacy concerns about automated license plate readers amid Chico controversy (mynspr.org) — A visit to Chico by Congressman James Gallagher spotlighted local concerns over automated license plate reader cameras, with the lawmaker calling for stronger privacy safeguards and oversight. He also promoted his Representation Act, arguing redistricting should prioritize communities like Chico and Paradise over party advantage, as he campaigns for a full House term this November.
5. No California cases reported in alfalfa sprout outbreak (actionnewsnow.com) — From Chico, health officials report a 15-state outbreak of E. coli and Salmonella tied to alfalfa sprouts, but so far no cases have been found in California. The CDC urges residents to avoid affected Calco and Everything Sprouts products, discard or return any on hand, and thoroughly clean surfaces that may have been contaminated.
