• Orange County Mother Charged with Murder of 2-Year-Old Son (iheart.com) — Coarsegold is where authorities recently arrested a woman now charged in Orange County with the death of her 2-year-old son. While the alleged crime happened in Placentia last year, the suspect had relocated to Northern California and was taken into custody in Coarsegold before being jailed without bail as the homicide case proceeds. 
• New map shows chances of wildfire survival, much of Central Valley at undue risk (yourcentralvalley.com) — Coarsegold is identified in a new UC wildfire study as one of several Madera County foothill communities with too few evacuation routes and high fire danger. Researchers say areas like Coarsegold fall below a six-road “survival” threshold and urge investments in better escape routes, warning systems, and designated refuge areas to improve residents’ chances in fast-moving fires.
