Private Equity Pet Hospital Investors Expand In Contra Costa (patch.com) — Longtime East Bay pet owners, including those in Concord, may see more of their neighborhood vet clinics joining large corporate networks as VetnCare, backed by private equity firm Great Point Partners, acquires Geary Veterinary Hospital in Walnut Creek. A California dog owner's database is helping residents track which Contra Costa veterinary hospitals, including those near Concord, are independently owned versus part of expanding corporate chains so they can make more informed choices about pet care.
   

2. Concord Weighs Million-Dollar Security Deal At Base (patch.com) — Concord residents should know the City Council is set to approve a million‑dollar, three‑year security contract for the former Concord Naval Weapons Station as part of a $628 million framework with the U.S. Navy. The deal would clear the way for long‑stalled redevelopment, including thousands of future homes and major new infrastructure, though actual groundbreaking is still years away.
   

3. Three arrested in series of chain snatch robberies in San Jose (eastbaytimes.com) — Police say suspects in a series of Bay Area chain-snatch robberies brought their getaway car into Concord, where they allegedly tried to rob another person before being arrested back in San Jose. The trio is accused of targeting elderly victims for gold jewelry and may be linked to multiple incidents. Residents are urged to stay alert and report similar crimes.
   

4. Patrick Owen Sullivan (martinezgazette.com) — Friends and former neighbors will remember Patrick Owen Sullivan, who was born in Concord in 1960 and later lived here among several other California communities. The longtime technical writer, nature lover, and devoted family man died August 1 in Rocklin; a Celebration of Life is planned October 16 at Old St. Mary's Chapel in Rocklin.
   

5. Contra Costa sheriff to continue cooperation with ICE on inmate release dates (eastbaytimes.com) — Thousands of immigration court cases are being shifted to Concord after San Francisco's court closure, raising concerns about a larger ICE presence in the area and its impact on immigrant residents. During a public forum, Contra Costa's sheriff defended limited cooperation with ICE while many speakers and some supervisors pushed for a stronger sanctuary policy. The Board of Supervisors plans to consider that policy on Sept. 8.
