• Ex-Calif. officer pleads guilty to tracking woman using LE database (police1.com) — Costa Mesa residents should know that a former city police officer has pleaded guilty to misusing law enforcement databases and repeatedly contacting a woman he’d been involved with, leading to probation and mandatory counseling. Authorities say he also tracked her and others, including his wife, and violated a restraining order before being placed on leave and ultimately leaving the Costa Mesa Police Department.
   

• Costa Mesa bottleshop, lucky lotto retailer forced to cap off 65-year run (latimes.com subscription) — A beloved Costa Mesa fixture, Baycrest Caps & Corks on East 17th Street has closed after 65 years, following a new landlord’s decision not to renew the lease. The family-run bottleshop was known as a neighborhood hangout, a “historical lucky” lottery retailer, and a go-to spot for craft beer, with the owners now hoping to reopen in a new location.
   

• Costa Mesa Man Pleads Guilty to Spitzer Threats (mynewsla.com) — A 63-year-old Costa Mesa resident has been sentenced to time served and two years of probation after pleading guilty to making criminal threats against Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer. The former county traffic engineer must also complete a year-long mental health program, following earlier, dismissed allegations of similar threatening behavior toward Spitzer and another official.
