• Brown Construction Leading Mixed-Use Project in Davis, Calif. (mycnr.com) — A major $88 million mixed-use project called The Lumberyard is now under construction in downtown Davis, bringing 239 new apartments plus amenities like a fitness center, pool, and co-working space. Five percent of units will be reserved as affordable housing, and the development, on the former Hibbert's Lumberyard site, is slated for completion in 2028.
   

• A $23 million NIH grant to continue UC Davis Alzheimer's Disease Research Center's mission (ucdavis.edu) — UC Davis' Alzheimer's Disease Research Center has secured a five-year, $23 million NIH grant renewal to expand dementia research, clinical trials, and community outreach. With strong ties to UC Davis Health in nearby Sacramento, the center's work on prevention, early diagnosis, and inclusive recruitment could directly benefit Davis-area families concerned about brain health and aging.
   

• Congressman Mike Thompson secures $4 million from USDA for glassy-winged sharpshooter (dailydemocrat.com) — Federal officials have approved $4 million in emergency USDA funding to combat the invasive glassy-winged sharpshooter, following a recent strategy meeting at UC Davis that highlighted risks to vineyards and crops statewide. For Davis-area residents and growers, the move supports ongoing state and county efforts to keep this pest from becoming established in Northern California's wine and agriculture regions.
