1. Queer Welcome Week helps students start the year on campus (theaggie.org) — UC Davis students in Davis can join a four-day Queer Welcome Week from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1 at the LGBTQIA Resource Center, featuring crafts, student org meetups, journaling and trivia. The program is designed to help new and returning students, especially those without existing connections, build community and learn about year-round support, counseling and gender-affirming resources on campus.
   

2. $1.2 million skate park opens in North Davis (theaggie.org) — Davis skaters now have a brand-new, $1.2 million skate park open in Community Park off 14th Street, free to use from dawn to dusk. Designed with extensive input from local skaters and UC Davis students, the park replaces the old 1993 facility and aims to grow the city's skating community while offering a safer, more accessible space for all ages.
   

3. Holmes Junior High Parent Teacher Association - Davis, CA Patch (patch.com) — Families with students at Holmes Junior High can look to the Davis-based Parent Teacher Association for funding of classroom supplies, science labs, music and art, plus support for behavior programs. The group focuses on keeping parents engaged and channeling every donated dollar into concrete improvements that directly benefit local students' daily school experience.
   

4. SCA Gives UC Davis Coffee Center $1 Million for Research Fellowship (dailycoffeenews.com) — UC Davis's Coffee Center in Davis has received a $1 million endowment from the Specialty Coffee Association to fund an ongoing graduate research fellowship. The gift will support about $40,000 annually for coffee science research, strengthening the university's role in brewing, sensory science and agricultural studies that connect local researchers with the global coffee industry.

  • Update: I didn't mention that the main reason I'm switching to Kaiser is that I've been unable to get a Sutter, UC Davis Med, or Dignity Health PCP to accept me as a new patient (though I have a Blue Shield of CA Medicare supplement) because they
