• Downieville Fire Dispatchers: Telling Us Where to Go and How to Get There (themountainmessenger.org) — Downieville Fire is ending its in-house volunteer dispatch service after more than 33 years, shifting all emergency dispatching to the Sierra County Sheriff’s Office because of declining volunteer numbers. Local residents are reassured that emergency responses will continue, while the department publicly honors dozens of longtime dispatchers whose calm voices and local knowledge have quietly supported every fire, medical, and rescue call since 1992.

CHP’s H20 helicopter hoisted the patient from difficult terrain to a roadside landing zone, where they were transferred to a ground ambulance, underscoring the region’s strong interagency emergency network.
