Applicants must be 18 or older, registered to vote in California, and committed to serving the community, with forms available at City Hall or via the city website.

Restaurant Owner Saves Choking Customer, Video Shows (patch.com) — A local restaurant owner in El Monte used the Heimlich maneuver to save a regular customer who began choking outside Carnitas Y Chicharrones El Gallo on Garvey Avenue. The dramatic May 31 rescue was caught on video and has inspired the owner and her staff to pursue CPR training so they’re better prepared for future emergencies.

Graduation 2026: El Monte Union graduates march on with smiles and hopes for next chapter (sgvtribune.com) — Families across El Monte, South El Monte, Rosemead and nearby neighborhoods just watched the El Monte Union High School District’s Class of 2026 graduate in a series of late-May and early-June ceremonies. From South El Monte High’s cultural flag tradition to multiple valedictorians at Rosemead High, students celebrated resilience, family support, and next steps ranging from college to the military.
   

4. California man arrested by Mesa County Sheriff's Office for computer fraud operation (kjct8.com) — A 25-year-old man from El Monte has been arrested in connection with an alleged computer fraud scheme that targeted a victim who mailed cash after a fake FDIC warning. Mesa County, Colorado investigators say the El Monte resident was identified picking up the intercepted package and was later arrested on a nationwide warrant, prompting renewed emphasis on fraud-prevention classes.
