1. Newsom's AB 1383 veto disappoints Elk Grove police union (elkgrovenews.net) — Elk Grove's police union is criticizing Gov. Gavin Newsom for vetoing AB 1383, a bill that would have expanded retirement benefits for police and firefighters. Local officers say the change would help recruitment and retention, while cities and counties statewide welcomed the veto over long-term pension cost concerns, leaving future benefit changes uncertain.
   

2. Gov. Newsom signs bill on regional housing and homelessness policy (fox40.com) — Elk Grove is being asked to join a new Sacramento County regional housing and homelessness authority, created by a bill just signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom. The joint powers authority would coordinate policy and funding among Elk Grove, Sacramento and nearby cities, with a target launch by January 1, 2028. Local leaders will now decide how Elk Grove participates and what role it plays.
   

3. An ACE in the hole? How a proposed train station could help revitalize North Sacramento (capradio.org) — A major Valley Rail expansion is slated to add an ACE station in Elk Grove, alongside new stops in Natomas and Midtown, improving regional rail access by 2031. While this story focuses on a proposed North Sacramento station, planners say Elk Grove's stop will similarly boost commuting options and could help spur nearby economic development.
   

4. Assembled 'like Legos,' hundreds of factory-built affordable homes are heading to Sacramento region (capradio.org) — Elk Grove is slated to receive part of a 600-home wave of factory-built affordable housing developments planned across Northern California by Mutual Housing California. After a senior project in Stockton, the developer will move into the Sacramento region, including Elk Grove and Vacaville, using modular units to cut construction time and costs. Researchers say this approach could modestly lower prices but isn't a complete solution.
   

5. Gourmet cookie shop closes at Sacramento's Delta Shores retail center (sacbee.com) — While Crumbl Cookie has abruptly closed its Delta Shores location in south Sacramento, the chain still operates a shop at 7560 Elk Grove Blvd. in Elk Grove. The national dessert brand, known for rotating gourmet cookie flavors, now counts ten Sacramento-area stores. Elk Grove residents still have a nearby option even as the south Sacramento site disappears from the mall directory.
