Magnolia Science Academy in Reseda Brought Tax Support to Many in the San Fernando Valley

On Saturday, residents in the San Fernando Valley filed taxes for FREE during a “Tacos, Taxes and Pupusas” event at Magnolia Science Academy in Reseda. The event aimed to reduce financial stress and make it easy for families to file basic taxes.

“Taxes can be taxing and stressful,” said Ali Kaplan, principal at Magnolia Science Academy - 5. “This is why we partnered with State Senator Caroline Menjivar to host this special event for local residents,” said Kaplan.

During the event, participants accessed resources like LAVITA (L.A. Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), L.A. County Department of Social Services, New Economics for Women, and Golden State Opportunity, and more. The event was sponsored by the Office of California State Senator, Caroline Menjivar (SD20), Cal EITC 4 Me, and Magnolia Public Schools.

“We’re very grateful for support from local nonprofits who come out each year to offer great resources to the community,” said Brad Plonka, Magnolia Science Academy – 1 principal. “This is our second year offering this service. Together, we’re making a difference for families, who receive assistance in a safe, welcoming and fun environment,” added Plonka.

In addition to the much-needed and welcomed services, participants enjoyed free tacos and pupusas, a delicacy of El Salvador. Participants traveled from throughout L.A. County for the help, and said it was easy to get this yearly project completed all in one day.
