Escondido bans riders under 12 on e-bikes as crashes surge to 35 this year (10news.com) — Escondido has tightened its e-bike rules, banning riders under 12 and adding fines and safety requirements after crashes jumped to 35 so far this year. The City Council's 4–1 vote sets new limits on where and how e-bikes can be ridden, while some leaders and riders still push for more formal training and education instead of stricter bans.

William Joyce killed in hit-and-run crash on El Norte Parkway (newsline.com) — A 65-year-old Escondido resident, William Colin Joyce, died after an apparent hit-and-run on El Norte Parkway east of Centre City Parkway, and the driver has not yet been identified. He was pronounced dead at Palomar Medical Center Escondido from blunt force injuries. Anyone with information is urged to contact Escondido police as investigators work to piece together what happened.
   

3. Former Escondido housing site could become San Pasqual tribal land (thecoastnews.com) — A long-disputed property in Escondido's San Pasqual Valley may instead be purchased for conservation and returned to the San Pasqual Band of Mission Indians, rather than developed into luxury homes. Local advocates, a land trust, and the Escondido City Council are backing efforts and related state legislation, but the deal hinges on securing millions in grant funding before the owner revives its stalled development plans.
   

4. Tristan Manata died in pedestrian accident on South Melrose Drive (newsline.com) — A 26-year-old man struck while crossing South Melrose Drive in Vista later died at Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, underscoring the regional role of the city's main hospital in serious crashes. Authorities are examining road conditions and driver responsibility, and the family may pursue a wrongful death claim as investigators reconstruct what happened.
   

5. Weekend Wrap-Up: CDC Closed the Largest Cyclospora Outbreak in American History at 12,883 Sick. FDA Closed a Romaine E. coli File and Named No Grower. And the Egg Recall the State Asked For Came on a (lexblog.com) — San Diego County health officials have linked a Salmonella outbreak to Happy Hens of Ramona eggs, and the recall list includes a home-delivery service based in Escondido. Local shoppers who buy organic eggs from county markets or delivery services should check for handler code CA-0677 and affected lot and sell-by dates, since illnesses have been reported across the region.
