Smithsonian selects Fresno to host major culture festival (yourcentralvalley.com) — A major three-day folklife festival is coming to downtown Fresno Oct. 2–4, celebrating the Central Valley's cultural diversity with free music, dance, Native traditions, food, and storytelling. Selected as part of a Smithsonian initiative, the Great Valley Gathering will kick off at Courthouse Park and feature local talent, including Fresno hip-hop artist Fashawn.

Fresno officials present fiscal analysis for proposed South SEDA development (abc30.com) — Fresno officials just unveiled a detailed fiscal analysis of the massive South SEDA development, projecting a $17.2 million surplus for the city's general fund. City leaders tout it as smart, phased growth, while some residents question the assumptions and housing density. The 73,911-square-foot complex, sold by a longtime Fresno-area owner, will see value-add improvements. 4. Update: Frank Fire burns 17 acres in Fresno County (fresnobee.com) — A new wildfire dubbed the Frank Fire has burned 17 acres near E. Kings Canyon Road and S. Zumwalt in Fresno County after starting Thursday evening. Cal Fire's Fresno-Kings Unit is responding, but officials haven't yet released details on containment or cause. Residents in the area should stay alert for further updates and possible changes in fire activity.
