1. 'Measure S' debate intensifies as new campaign launches against the proposed sales tax (abc30.com) — Fresno County voters are being courted by dueling campaigns over Measure S, a proposed 30-year half-cent transportation sales tax that would replace Measure C when it expires and heavily fund local street repairs and transit. Supporters warn of deteriorating roads without it, while opponents argue leaders should craft a better plan; Fresno city voters will also decide a separate roads measure, Measure D.
   

2. Fresno voters show up for city council district candidate forum (abc30.com) — Fresno residents packed a Tower District forum to question City Council candidates from Districts 1, 3, and 7 on housing, education, funding, and data centers. With just six weeks until the midterm election, the volunteer-run event helped voters compare contenders, notice who showed up, and hear how each hopeful says they'll represent Fresno's neighborhoods.
   

3. Update: Basin Fire burns one acre in Fresno County since Sep. 21 (sacbee.com) — A small wildfire dubbed the Basin Fire has burned about one acre of federal land in Fresno County since it was discovered Monday afternoon, and officials have not yet reported any containment. Believed to be naturally caused, the blaze is being tracked by federal fire managers, so Fresno County residents should stay aware in case conditions change.
   

4. Fresno County allows select DA employees to carry concealed weapons (abc30.com) — Fresno County has approved a new policy allowing selected District Attorney's Office staff to carry concealed firearms in county buildings and parks while on duty, following a stabbing of a senior prosecutor in Courthouse Park. Supporters say it boosts safety for employees and the public, while critics warn more guns in high-stress government spaces could increase risks.
   

5. Shaver Springs water fight boils over as Magsig shows water taste-test (sjvsun.com) — Fresno County residents in Shaver Springs are pressing county supervisors over discolored tap water they say isn't safe, despite officials insisting tests show it's potable. Supervisor Nathan Magsig pushed back at a board meeting, showing videos of himself drinking from four local wells while acknowledging contaminants like uranium and manganese and promising ongoing work toward long-term fixes.
