Engineering a Supportive Habitat for Endangered Species (bluedotliving.com) — Goleta’s Ellwood Mesa is a key winter refuge for migrating monarch butterflies, and city partners are working with biologists to track and protect them. Paso Robles–based Althouse and Meade maps habitats statewide and helps design renewable energy projects that also support endangered species, showing how careful planning can benefit both wildlife and infrastructure.

Santa Barbara Unified Celebrates the Class of 2026 Graduation (independent.com) — Graduation week just wrapped up for Santa Barbara Unified, with ceremonies ringing out across Santa Barbara and Goleta, including Dos Pueblos High. In all, 1,454 students in the Class of 2026 earned diplomas, many with honors like the Seal of Biliteracy and CTE pathway completions, while younger students marked promotions at junior highs and elementary schools.

4. Dr. Robert W. Olson of Santa Barbara, 1932-2026 (noozhawk.com) — Family and friends in Goleta can honor longtime Santa Barbara radiologist Dr. Robert W. Olson at a memorial service July 8 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church on North Fairview. New Cuyama Local Takes Home the Santa Barbara E-Bikery Grand Prize at 17th Annual CycleMAYnia (independent.com) — A New Cuyama teen won a donated e-bike during CycleMAYnia’s grand-finale celebration at Goleta Beach, capping a month of bike events across Santa Barbara County. Organizers say riders discovered new routes, including the Modoc Multi-Use Path linking Santa Barbara and Goleta, and logged trips that cut emissions, saved money, and boosted participation in local bike commuting challenges.
