Woman Accused Of Pulling Trigger During Failed Killing
Mendocino County deputies said a Covelo woman allegedly tried to shoot her roommate after an attempted robbery, but the rifle malfunctioned.
NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — A woman is accused of attempting to murder her roommate after allegedly pulling the trigger on a rifle that failed to fire during an attempted robbery, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.
A Covelo woman was arrested on attempted murder and other felony charges after deputies said she tried to shoot her roommate during an attempted robbery, but the rifle wouldn't fire.
Abigail Sanchez-Santos, 39, was booked into the Mendocino County Jail following the June 26 incident at a home in the 23600 block of Biggar Lane, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies said the 44-year-old victim told investigators Sanchez-Santos entered his bedroom armed with a rifle and attempted to steal his belongings.
During the confrontation, Sanchez-Santos allegedly forced the victim toward the outside of the residence, threatened to kill him, and pulled the trigger on the rifle.

"The firearm malfunctioned and did not discharge," the deputies said.
The man escaped and contacted law enforcement. Emergency medical personnel treated him for superficial injuries at the scene, deputies said.
Sanchez-Santos was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, attempted robbery, kidnapping, and making criminal threats.
She is being held in the Mendocino County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail, according to the Sheriff's Office.
