Police: Man Who Died During RivCo Burglary Was Accused Perpetrator (patch.com) — Hemet police say the man who died after an April 8 break-in on South Santa Fe Street was the suspected burglar, and investigators are not seeking additional suspects. Officers found him in the front yard with stab wounds, and authorities emphasize there is no ongoing threat to the community.
   

2. Trial Date Set For Man Accused of Murdering RivCo Housemate (patch.com) — A Hemet resident is headed to trial in June on murder and attempted murder charges connected to a 2022 shooting that killed a Hemet woman at a shared home. Hemet police tracked the suspect to Cabazon, where a police dog was injured during the arrest but later recovered. The case continues in Riverside County Superior Court with the defendant held on $2 million bail.
   

3. SBC 2026 Committee on Committees announced • Biblical Recorder (brnow.org) — Southern Baptists have named Melody Hawks of Hope in the Valley, Hemet, to the SBC’s 2026 Committee on Committees, giving Hemet a voice in upcoming national church nominations. The 68-member group will prepare a slate of leaders ahead of the June 2026 SBC annual meeting in Orlando, shaping who serves on key denominational boards.
   

4. Veteran Educator Presses Forward With High-Stakes Discrimination Lawsuit Against School District (shinemycrown.com) — A long-running federal civil rights lawsuit against Hemet Unified School District is moving forward after a judge struck key district trial filings and vacated the April 7 court date. Veteran educator Janet Robinson alleges the district failed to curb racial harassment and address broader policy and employment concerns, raising questions about protections for staff and students in Hemet’s Title I schools.
