Man Gunned Down On Melrose Avenue: LAPD

The shooting occurred at 10:10 p.m. Sunday.

HOLLYWOOD, CA — A 45-year-old man was shot to death while walking down a street in East Hollywood, authorities said Monday.

The shooting occurred at 10:10 p.m. Sunday in the 4300 block of Melrose Avenue, at Berendo Street, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.

The victim was walking with another man from a liquor store and the witness walked ahead, the officer said.

The witness heard several gunshots and ran back where he found the mortally wounded victim and a firearm next to him. A suspect was seen driving westbound on Melrose. There was no further description.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim dead at the scene, he said.

Video from the scene showed a large area cordoned off by yellow police tape and officers setting up a white canopy to conceal a sheet-covered body.

Investigators believed the shooting was gang related, the spokesman said.
