Cal Fire aircraft and multiple local fire departments slowed the 35-acre blaze, allowing crews to begin containment overnight while deputies closed nearby streets and residents awaited word on full control. 
• High-Speed Cadillac CT5 Chase Ends in Deadly Crash After Failed Police Grappler Attempt (theautowire.com) — A high-speed police pursuit of a suspected stolen Cadillac began in Jurupa Valley near Pats Ranch Road and Limonite Avenue and ended in a deadly crash after a failed grappler maneuver. The chase moved from local streets onto Interstates 10 and 15, briefly locking down a nearby school. Investigators say the driver later died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the wrecked car.
• Cardinal Newman football coach Frank McManus leaves after one season (sfchronicle.com) — A standout long jumper and triple jumper from Jurupa Valley matched the nation’s best at the prestigious Arcadia Invitational, tying for the top long jump mark and winning the triple jump.
