OJC is very excited to present this collaborative musical event featuring Stephanie Crawford! She is an internationally acclaimed singer and that rare bird: a black trans vocal musician in the exceedingly straight jazz world.Born in 1942, she grew up in Detroit, Michigan, during the Golden Age of modern jazz. Always a lover of music, she did not, however, sing in public until she was 36, after working on a Chrysler assembly line and as a short-order cook, and earning a bachelor’s degree in painting from Wayne State University. Along the way, at age 26, she also underwent a new “male-to-female gender reassignment surgery” offered by the University of Michigan.Having studied with renowned bop pianist Barry Harris in New York, she migrated to Paris, where she remained for several years, performing and teaching at prestigious schools of music, various festivals, and venues such as The Duc des Lombards, The Sunset, New Morning, and a host of other establishments, winning the Django D’Or award for Best International Jazz Vocalist. In New York, she has performed in such famed venues as Wigstock, The Pyramid, Sweet Basil, The Blue Note, Jazzmania, and Barry Harris Jazz Cultural Theatre, among others. She is a sublime interpreter of the American and Brazilian songbook, performing in the classic jazz vocal tradition of Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae, and Betty Carter. Lafayette Rotary Club Announces Third Annual “Keep on Truckin” Community Event
LAFAYETTE, CA – October 3rd — The Rotary Club of Lafayette is excited to announce the return of its popular “Keep on Truckin”
event, a family-friendly celebration that brings the community together through hands-on exploration, education, and fun.

Following the tremendous success of last year’s inaugural event, organizers are preparing for an even larger turnout in 2026. The second “Keep on Truckin” welcomed more than 2,000 attendees and raised over $10,000 for the Monument Crisis Center, a local nonprofit dedicated to supporting families in need.
The event transformed downtown Lafayette into a showcase of impressive vehicles and equipment, including fire engines, police vehicles, garbage trucks, dump trucks, backhoes, concrete pumpers, cherry pickers, and more. Children and families enjoyed the rare opportunity to climb aboard, meet operators, and learn about the essential services these vehicles provide throughout the community.
“This event creates a unique experience where children can explore, learn, and be inspired while families connect with their community,” said event organizers. “At the same time, it helps raise critical funds for local charitable organizations.”
This year, the Rotary Club of Lafayette aims to attract even more families, expand community participation, and increase support for local charitable causes. Organizers are inviting businesses and community partners to join as sponsors and help make the event an even greater success.
