• Carjacking suspect arrested after plate reader tracks stolen SUV (sandiegocountynews.com) — An armed carjacking on Hi Ridge Road in Lakeside ended with the suspect jailed after deputies used license plate reader technology to track the stolen GMC Yukon. The SUV was later found in Spring Valley, where a 43-year-old woman was arrested without incident. Sheriff’s officials say the system was crucial in quickly recovering the vehicle and removing a potentially dangerous suspect. 
• FBI arrests three American men for allegedly helping ISIS (audacy.com) — Federal authorities have arrested three young men, including one from Lakeside, on allegations they tried to fund ISIS using a small cryptocurrency scheme. Prosecutors say the men believed they were sending money to buy weapons for attacks on U.S. service members. All three are being held in federal custody as the case proceeds.
