• Video Shows Man Crashing Into Parked Car, Flipping Upside Down, Then Fleeing From Angry Owner (mandatory.com) — A La Mesa couple was jolted awake when a speeding driver slammed into their parked car, flipping his own vehicle upside down on a neighborhood street before trying to run away. The pair chased him on foot while staying on the phone with 911, and La Mesa police soon took the man into custody as questions remain about his identity and insurance. 
• APHIS Expands Mexican Fruit Fly (Anastrepha ludens) Quarantine in San Diego County, California (usda.gov) — Federal and state agriculture officials have expanded the Mexican fruit fly quarantine that now includes La Mesa, after multiple detections in local residential fruit trees. The 173-square-mile quarantine brings new restrictions on moving homegrown produce, aiming to protect commercial avocado, citrus, and other crops while crews work to eradicate the invasive pest.
• Third Suspect Arrested In East County Assaults (patch.com) — La Mesa residents may notice increased law enforcement activity after deputies served a search warrant on High Street and arrested a man tied to February assaults in nearby Lemon Grove. Authorities say three suspects are now in custody, and investigators are still encouraging anyone with information to contact the sheriff's office or Crime Stoppers.
