Where To Find Free Turkeys in Los Angeles for Thanksgiving 2026 (mommypoppins.com) — Lancaster's fifth annual turkey giveaway starts at 10 a.m. Nov. 14 at the Lancaster Community Center on Yucca Avenue. Turkeys will be distributed first-come, first-served, offering families help with Thanksgiving dinner. The regional guide also lists other November giveaways and points residents needing year-round food assistance to CalFresh.
   

2. Antelope Valley crime blotter, Nov. 5, 2026 (avpress.com) — Two arson reports in Lancaster appear in the Antelope Valley crime blotter covering October 19–20, one on East Lancaster Boulevard and another on Division Street. The Lancaster entries also include assaults, burglaries, robberies and thefts, but the listing provides no circumstances, suspect information or case outcomes.
   

3. Whitesides wins; mayor to be elected (avpress.com) — Challenger Oscar Iraheta holds a strong lead over incumbent Duane G. Winn in Lancaster School District's Area 2 board race, while incumbent Pamela Starlson leads narrowly in Area 5. Those preliminary results are part of a broader Antelope Valley election roundup, with ballots still being counted and state certification due Dec. 11.
   

4. How Lancaster, California Turned a Desert Highway into a Leafy Boulevard (envirolink.org) — Nine blocks of West Lancaster Boulevard became a downtown gathering place after the city replaced a five-lane thoroughfare with a tree-lined streetscape in 2010. The BLVD now houses 250 public and private enterprises, and residents describe its value as more than economic: a place to feel connected to their community.
   

5. Ex-Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy gets 5 years for jail drug-smuggling case (dailynews.com) — A former sheriff's deputy from Lancaster has been sentenced to five years and seven months in federal prison after pleading guilty in a jail drug-smuggling case. Prosecutors say Michael Meiser carried heroin into Castaic's North County Correctional Facility in Pringles containers for cash bribes. His sentence also includes four years of supervised release.
