• Curiel is sworn in as new Corning Police Chief (appeal-democrat.com) — A new police chief in nearby Corning says a positive encounter with a Live Oak officer when he was a kid helped steer him toward law enforcement. Eduardo Curiel, a longtime Corning officer and former farmer, was sworn in as chief after Craig Bassett’s retirement and plans to maintain the department’s current direction while mentoring the next generation of officers.
