4-Vehicle Head-On Crash Involving 2 Trucks Shuts Altamont Pass Road

LIVERMORE, CA — Altamont Pass Road was closed for several hours Friday morning following a head-on crash involving two cars and two semi-trucks, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At around 6:19 a.m. CHP received reports of a head-on crash involving four vehicles at Altamont Pass Road, according to the CHP incident log. A caller reported that a Toyota crossed the double yellow lines and hit a semi-truck head-on.

At around 6:31 a.m., responders confirmed that one person was trapped in a Tesla, but appeared conscious. Firefighters worked to extricate the person. No one else was believed to be trapped inside the vehicles, according to the log. A helicopter was dispatched to the scene.

Photos posted to Instagram show a Tesla whose front has been completely destroyed and “broken into multiple pieces”, and a truck that careened off the road and lost its front tires. The log also says that the white Toyota had a broken right-front axle.

At 6:39 a.m., CHP issued an alert saying that all lanes of Altamont Pass west of Carroll Road were blocked. As of 9:55 a.m., 511.org no longer had a sign reporting the road closed.
