Multiple Dead In CA State Beach Shooting

MOSS LANDING, CA — Multiple people were killed in a shooting that occurred just after midnight Monday in Moss Landing, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.

It was the state's second mass shooting over a Halloween weekend marked by gun violence nationwide.

The shooting occurred along Jetty Road in Moss Landing, which is located near Moss Landing State Beach, about halfway between Santa Cruz and Monterey. Multiple fatalities and casualties were confirmed, the sheriff’s office said.

California State Parks have closed Jetty Road and Moss Landing State Beach at the request of the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, police said.

There is no active threat to the Moss Landing community as of Monday morning.

Police are actively investigating, and are not releasing any further information Monday morning.

The Moss Landing shooting was the second mass shooting in Northern California over the Halloween weekend. On Friday night, a shooting inside a Spirit Halloween store in Fairfield left a pregnant woman dead and six other people wounded, police said. Authorities have not yet announced an arrest in that shooting.
