• A California frog is on the brink of extinction. Long Beach's aquarium has a plan to save it (laist.com) — Biologists at Long Beach's Aquarium of the Pacific are quietly leading a major rescue effort for the endangered mountain yellow-legged frog, raising and releasing more than 1,000 into Southern California mountain streams. Working with zoos and federal agencies, the aquarium mimics natural conditions, combats deadly chytrid fungus, and carefully returns froglets to their native habitats to rebuild this fragile species.
