Supporters, including Mayor Rex Richardson, frame the move as a cost-saving step, while many residents and two councilmembers warn it could limit meaningful input on key agenda items. The proposal must still return to the council for final approval.

5. Port of Los Angeles Caps Record Summer as U.S. Import Strength Holds Up (gcaptain.com) — Cargo moving through the neighboring Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach just hit record summer levels, signaling strong import demand that supports local jobs and trucking activity. August volumes at both San Pedro Bay ports combined reached about 1.88 million containers, and forecasters expect high import traffic to continue into September before easing later in the fall.
