Woman Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver, Metro Train Identified (patch.com) — Long Beach residents are being urged to help police identify the hit-and-run driver who struck 76-year-old Song Tate before she was fatally hit by a Metro train near Long Beach Boulevard and East 23rd Street on Sept. 5. Authorities have not yet determined whether speed, distraction, or impairment played a role, and are asking anyone with information to contact Long Beach police or submit anonymous tips through LA Crime Stoppers.

2. Long Beach Approves $24.2M Airport Taxiway Overhaul (patch.com) — Long Beach is moving ahead with a $24.2 million construction contract to realign and reconstruct Taxiway F at Long Beach Airport, a project expected to take about 13 months of active work. Backed mostly by a $27 million federal grant and airport revenues, the upgrade aims to improve safety, visibility, and aging pavement without disrupting commercial flights or tapping local tax dollars.

3. Long Beach stuck with costly eyesore after abandoned Cold War relic falls apart (nypost.com) — Long Beach officials are moving toward removing the deteriorating Russian submarine moored next to the Queen Mary, a project that could cost the city many millions of dollars. With ownership murky and safety and environmental risks growing, the city is gathering contractor proposals to figure out how to safely dismantle and haul away the Cold War relic without polluting local waters or harming the historic liner.

4. Driver detained after seriously hurting teenager outside Poly High, police say (lbpost.com) — A teenage boy was seriously hurt this morning after a teen driver lost control and hit him while he crossed Atlantic Avenue near 15th Street outside Poly High School in Long Beach. Police say the unlicensed driver was detained and both teens were taken to the hospital, with the victim's injuries described as serious but not life-threatening.

Long Beach Public Health Lab now offering environmental lead testing (sigtrib.com) — Long Beach's Public Health Laboratory is now accredited to offer environmental lead testing, giving residents, landlords, and businesses a local, lower-cost way to check air, dust, paint, and soil for lead hazards. The service supports city programs targeting older housing and high‑risk neighborhoods, and includes clear contact numbers and fees so Long Beach families can quickly seek testing and follow‑up help.
