Oscar winner Barry Levinson (Rain Man, 1988) directed this lavish biographical gangster drama about the notorious Benjamin “Bugsy” Siegel (Best Actor nominee Warren Beatty), his romance with the beautiful Virginia Hill (Annette Bening), and his role in the transformation of Las Vegas into a gambling mecca. The film earned 10 Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Directing, Original Screenplay, Cinematography, and the supporting performances of Harvey Keitel (as Mickey Cohen) and Ben Kingsley (as Meyer Lansky). Oscars were awarded for Art Direction (Dennis Gassner, Nancy Haigh) and the elegant, expressive, and period-perfect costume designs of two-time winner Albert Wolsky (All That Jazz, 1979)
