Body Found On 210 Freeway During Morning Commute

AZUSA, CA — A person was found dead on the westbound 210 Freeway in Azusa early Wednesday, prompting a SigAlert that shut down lanes for several hours during the morning commute.

The California Highway Patrol received a report at 3:31 a.m. of a body partially blocking a lane on the freeway east of Azusa Avenue, according to the agency's incident log.

The CHP log did not indicate that anyone witnessed what happened to the pedestrian.

Los Angeles County Fire Department crews and CHP officers responded to the scene, ABC 7 reported.

The CHP issued a SigAlert at 3:46 a.m., initially closing the two right westbound lanes. The closure was expanded shortly after 4 a.m. to include all westbound lanes from Grand Avenue, while the HOV lane remained available to traffic.

The shutdown caused a significant backup along the freeway, KTLA reported.

All westbound lanes were reopened at about 6:20 a.m., according to the CHP.

The cause of the fatal incident and the identity of the person were not immediately available.

A Sigalert continued to be in effect for associated traffic delays on the freeway as of 8:50 a.m.
