LAPD Shoots Man With Tree-Trimmer
According to the LAPD, officers were responding "to a violent male with mental illness where the suspect was armed with a metal pipe."
LOS ANGELES, CA — Police shot and killed a man allegedly armed with a tree trimmer in Boyle Heights Monday.
Officers were dispatched at 9:55 a.m. Monday to a radio call in the 600 block of Gillette Street regarding "a violent male with mental illness where the suspect was armed with a metal pipe," according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
"Upon arrival, the officers located the suspect who was armed with a large tree trimmer with an approximate 12-inch serrated blade. He failed to comply with orders to drop the pole and continued advancing towards officers," police continued.

"As the officers redeployed, an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect was struck by gunfire. LAFD paramedics responded to the scene and transported the suspect to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
"Prior to LAFD arrival, officers provided medical attention to the suspect."

The department added that authorities were still in the early stages of the investigation, with multiple witnesses to interview, including the officers involved, as well as video to review.
