Major 105 Freeway Closures, Metro C Line Disruptions Planned This Weekend
The major freeway overhaul promises to slash travel times by up to 50% ahead of the 2028 Olympics.
LOS ANGELES, CA — Drivers on the 105 Freeway should prepare for lane closures this weekend as Metro continues construction on a major express lanes project ahead of the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
Two westbound lanes of the freeway will be closed between Central Avenue and the 110 Freeway beginning at 10 p.m. Friday through 10 a.m. Sunday, according to Metro.
The closures will affect the two innermost lanes, including the carpool lane and the No. 1 lane, while the remaining lanes will stay open.

The work is part of the I-105 ExpressLanes Project, which will add two express lanes in each direction of the freeway by converting existing carpool lanes.
Metro expects the new express lanes to reduce travel times by up to 50%. The project is expected to be completed in time for the 2028 Olympics.

The weekend closures are necessary to install overhead sign structures for the express lanes.
The construction will also disrupt Metro C Line service.
A bus bridge will operate between the Vermont/Athens and Willowbrook/Rosa Parks stations from 9 p.m. Friday through 9 a.m. Saturday. During that period, the Harbor Freeway and Avalon stations will be closed.
Metro said traffic control measures and advance warning signs will be in place to guide drivers through the construction zone.
The closures are part of a series of extended weekend lane closures planned intermittently through early 2027. The work will affect one direction of the freeway at a time.
Construction schedules remain subject to change depending on weather conditions and the progress of the work.
Motorists can find additional information about this weekend's closures on Metro's project website.
