Measles Outbreak: New Case Confirmed In LA County

LOS ANGELES, CA — Health officials confirmed the seventh positive case of measles in Los Angeles County this year after an infected traveler arrived at Hollywood Burbank Airport last week.

According to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, the person was infectious during the time they were traveling locally. They arrived at Hollywood Burbank Airport on Southwest Airlines Flight 4245.

Health officials warned travelers who were at Gate A4 on June 17 between 8:45 a.m. and 9:45 a.m. may have been exposed to measles.

LACDPH has partnered with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to contact passengers who may have been within close proximity of the infectious traveler during the flight.

In addition, anyone who visited the Thrifty Rental Car Service at 2627 N. Hollywood Way in Burbank may have been exposed. The exposure would have occured:

• June 17: 9:20 a.m. to 10:20 a.m.
• June 18: 10:25 a.m. to 11:25 a.m.

Measles is one of the most contagious diseases in the world. Nine out of 10 unvaccinated people who come into close contact with the infected person can become infected, according to the LACDPH.

People who have been vaccinated or previously had measles are usually protected. People who are not vaccinated are at higher risk.

Health officials urged anyone planning to visit Mexico where a measles outbreak has infected more than people so far this year.
