Mountain Lion Roams San Gabriel Valley Neighborhood As Authorities Attempt Capture

SAN DIMAS, CA — A mountain lion spotted roaming through a residential area of northern San Dimas Friday morning was later found resting beneath trees near homes as authorities prepared to safely relocate the animal.

San Dimas Sheriff’s Station deputies received a call Friday morning reporting a mountain lion along Foothill Avenue between San Dimas Avenue and San Dimas Canyon Road, according to the station.

Authorities urged people to avoid the area and asked nearby residents to secure pets and remove or secure outdoor food that could attract wildlife.

KTLA's helicopter crew later located the mountain lion resting in the shade beneath trees along Foothill Boulevard between Walnut Avenue and Longhorn Drive, a short distance from nearby homes.

The animal appeared calm and occasionally lifted its head to look around but had remained in place while the news helicopter was over the area, KTLA’s reported.

Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies and animal control officers responded to the neighborhood and blocked off the street while monitoring the mountain lion, according to KTLA.

Aerial video showed authorities gathered nearby as the animal continued resting beneath the trees.

Officials were expected to eventually attempt to safely relocate the mountain lion.

The sheriff’s station also warned runners, pedestrians and residents to remain alert. Anyone who sees the mountain lion was asked to keep a safe distance and immediately contact the San Dimas Sheriff’s Station.
