The recognition highlights everything from legendary Boyle Heights shrimp tacos to South LA's Mercado La Paloma, which gathers multiple standout vendors under one roof, showcasing the city's rich Mexican culinary scene.
   

2. LAX Worker Accused In 24-Pound Fentanyl Handoff (patch.com) — Residents should know that federal authorities say they intercepted about 24 pounds of fentanyl during an alleged handoff in a men's bathroom at Los Angeles International Airport. Two Lennox men, including an LAX worker, now face federal drug distribution charges in downtown Los Angeles and could receive lengthy prison sentences if convicted.
   

3. Flying Taxis Coming To LA Could Cost About The Same As An Uber Black Ride (patch.com) — Downtown Los Angeles could soon see electric flying taxis shuttling riders directly to LA Live, with fares expected to be in the Uber Black range. Archer Aviation's planned vertiport would anchor a broader LA network linking LAX, Burbank, SoFi Stadium, USC and more ahead of the 2028 Olympics, pending federal certification of its Midnight aircraft.
   

4. Pharmacy, Jack In The Box Burglarized During Back-To-Back Street Takeovers (patch.com) — Late Sunday night, two businesses in Boyle Heights and East Los Angeles were burglarized amid back-to-back street takeovers that drew large crowds and masked suspects. Thieves used tools to break into Lorena Pharmacy and later hit a Jack in the Box, stealing merchandise and cash registers. Los Angeles police are investigating these incidents, which follow similar takeover-related burglaries at local AutoZone stores earlier this month.
   

5. Rampart Village neighbors say homeless encampment has become a 'breaking point' (foxla.com) — Neighbors in Los Angeles' Rampart Village say a sidewalk encampment has brought trash, suspected drug use and safety worries right up to their homes, pushing some tenants to move out. People living in the encampment insist they're being unfairly blamed, while the property owner fears ongoing problems and financial strain could eventually cost him his home.
