1. 653 Rare Frogs Released Into LA County Mountains In Conservation Push (patch.com) — Los Angeles residents can now see the impact of a major local conservation effort, as 653 endangered southern mountain yellow-legged frogs bred at the LA Zoo were released into the San Gabriel Mountains. The zoo's new bio-secure headstarting facility in the Children's Discovery Center is helping raise thousands of frogs for release, while visitors can still view the species at the Living Amphibian, Invertebrate, and Reptile exhibit.
   

2. Inmate Convicted Of Carjacking Captured In VA After Walking Away From LA County Program (patch.com) — Los Angeles County officials are dealing with the fallout after a 28-year-old man serving a six-year sentence for carjacking and second-degree robbery walked away from a local Male Community Reentry Program in August. He was captured during a traffic stop in Virginia, booked on an escape warrant, and now faces possible additional escape charges from the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
   

3. Power Outages Hit Thousands In LA As Heat Wave Strains Electrical Equipment (patch.com) — Thousands of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power customers lost electricity Thursday as extreme heat and humidity overloaded equipment across multiple parts of the city. With temperatures hitting triple digits in Los Angeles and response times stretching up to 12 hours, LADWP has deployed more than 90 field crews and is urging Angelenos, especially on the Westside, to conserve energy and limit appliance use during peak hours.

August volumes slightly beat five-year averages, signaling strong consumer demand and early holiday shipping. Port leaders say Los Angeles remains well positioned as global trade routes shift and importers seek fast rail connections nationwide.
