Fugitive In Creepy Baby Doll Mask Case May Be Headed To SoCal: Police (patch.com) — Los Angeles readers are being warned that a 22-year-old suspect accused of terrorizing multiple people in Philadelphia while wearing a creepy baby doll-style mask is known to travel regularly between the Los Angeles area, Las Vegas and the East Coast. Philadelphia police say an arrest warrant is active and they are working with U.S. Marshals, noting the man has ties to California and may have fled Pennsylvania.
   

2. Date Set For 101 Freeway Wildlife Crossing Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony (patch.com) — Residents across greater Los Angeles will soon see the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing over the 101 Freeway reach a key milestone, with a Dec. 2 ribbon-cutting and public celebration planned in Agoura Hills. The massive project, designed to help mountain lions and other wildlife safely move through the Santa Monica Mountains, is nearing completion and will anchor long-term research, habitat restoration and education efforts.
   

3. Diane Warren Adopts Viral Runaway West Hollywood Pig: Report (patch.com) — A runaway pig that captured social media attention while dashing through West Hollywood streets has been adopted from the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter by Grammy-winning songwriter and animal rescuer Diane Warren. Los Angeles Animal Services officials say the young pig, now headed to Warren's Malibu sanctuary, could eventually grow to more than 100 pounds and live for up to 15 years.
   

4. LA County health officials confirm first West Nile virus death of 2026 (nbclosangeles.com) — Los Angeles County has recorded its first West Nile virus death of 2026, a San Fernando Valley resident, as infections and positive mosquito tests run higher than usual across the region. Health officials urge residents to use repellent, eliminate standing water, and check window and door screens, noting that August and September are peak months for serious infections in LA.
   

5. Breaking: Cristo Fire reported in Los Angeles County on Aug. 20 (sanluisobispo.com) — A new wildfire named the Cristo Fire was discovered Thursday evening in Los Angeles County, burning on federal land managed by the U.S. Forest Service. Officials have not yet released information on containment or cause, so residents should stay alert for updated guidance and possible smoke or air-quality impacts as firefighters respond.
