Marmalade Cafe Files For Bankruptcy After String Of Closures (patch.com) — Marmalade Cafe, a longtime Southern California chain, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy after closing several locations, including its Original Farmers Market restaurant in Los Angeles. Executives blame steep sales losses at the Calabasas site, rent disputes and supplier debts for the restructuring move. Remaining locations in Malibu, Sherman Oaks, Westlake Village and El Segundo are expected to stay open as the company works through its financial troubles.
   

2. Fall 2026's Biggest Movies: 'Practical Magic 2,' 'Resident Evil,' 'Street Fighter' And 'Heart Of The Beast' (patch.com) — Los Angeles moviegoers can look forward to a packed fall 2026 slate, with star-driven releases ranging from sequels like Practical Magic 2 and new Resident Evil and Street Fighter reboots to prestige dramas such as The Social Reckoning and Klara and the Sun. The lineup, anchored in Hollywood's studio system, spans action, horror, animation and awards-season fare, all headed for big-screen runs starting in September.
   

3. How T. Rex Teeth Helped UCLA Scientists Take The Dinosaur's Temperature (patch.com) — UCLA scientists in Los Angeles have directly measured the body temperature of Tyrannosaurus rex for the first time, using tiny samples from teeth of the Thomas T. rex at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Their decade-in-the-making technique shows the dinosaur ran at about 97 degrees, supporting the idea it was warm-blooded and active even in colder ancient climates.
   

4. 'South Central Strong' mural unveiled along 110 (wavepublication.com) — A new "South Central Strong" mural now brightens a stretch of the 110 Freeway in South Los Angeles, honoring local grief, resilience, and creativity. Installed near neighborhood schools and funded through the Clean California program, it's the final piece in a trio of freeway murals celebrating Black history, community activism, and cultural pride across South LA.
   

5. Feds raid home near South LA as part of homeless aid fraud probe (nbclosangeles.com) — Federal agents in Los Angeles have arrested three nonprofit leaders accused of diverting millions meant for homeless housing into real estate, nightlife businesses, and personal expenses, including programs tied to LAHSA. With Mayor Karen Bass and federal officials vowing accountability, the case could affect how homelessness funds are overseen and recovered across Los Angeles neighborhoods.
