📰 News we're reading

1. Santa Clarita Fire Map: See Bouquet Fire Perimeter, Evacuation Areas (patch.com) — Residents across Los Angeles County's Santa Clarita area are facing urgent evacuation orders as the Bouquet Fire rapidly spreads through more than 800 acres of Angeles National Forest brush. Officials have mapped out multiple mandatory and warning zones, closed key stretches of Bouquet Canyon Road, and deployed air tankers, strike teams, and hand crews to protect threatened homes and update evacuees in real time.

2. Pilot Killed In Catalina Medevac Crash Flew President's Marine One (patch.com) — Los Angeles County rescuers and ordinary bystanders rushed into the waters off Catalina Island after a REACH medical helicopter crashed shortly after takeoff, ultimately leaving three people dead and two survivors flown to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Authorities identified the victims, including a former Marine One pilot and a Catalina Island mother of three, while LA County fire, lifeguard and sheriff's dive teams led the extensive search and recovery effort.

3. Kelvin Wave Closing In On CA, Scientist Warns (patch.com) — Southern California coastal communities, including the Los Angeles area, are being warned that a coastally trapped Kelvin wave could raise sea levels by several inches in the coming days, heightening flood risk when combined with high tides or storms. Scientists say recent erosion in places like Long Beach and Malibu may leave shorelines more vulnerable, even though residents will not see a dramatic incoming wave.

4. Amber Alert issued for 3-year-old girl taken from South Los Angeles (cbsnews.com) — An Amber Alert is active after 3-year-old Marieny Calderon was reportedly abducted Saturday evening near South Avenue 49 and Figueroa Street in South Los Angeles. Authorities say she may be in a gray 2019 Toyota RAV4 with California plate 9ETY017 and urge anyone who spots the child or vehicle anywhere in Los Angeles to call 911 immediately.

5. Dodgers will continue going left with Blake Snell in Game 2 against Braves (statenews.net) — The Dodgers are sticking with left-handed pitching at Dodger Stadium, sending Blake Snell to start Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the Braves while saving ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto for Game 3. After Tarik Skubal's dominant Game 1 and a resurgent Los Angeles offense, the team hopes another lefty matchup will keep Atlanta's big bats in check.
