'Pooches In The Pool' Returns To 5 LA County Pools This Weekend

LOS ANGELES, CA — Five Los Angeles County public pools will go to the dogs Saturday for a season-ending splash party just for four-legged swimmers.

The county's annual Pooches in the Pool event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday, giving dogs a chance to swim and play on the final day of the seasonal pool program before the pools are drained and cleaned for the year.

The Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation and Department of Animal Care and Control are hosting the event at five locations:

• City Terrace Park Pool, 1126 N. Hazard Ave., Los Angeles
• El Cariso Park Pool, 13100 Hubbard St., Sylmar
• George Lane Park Pool, 5520 W. Avenue L-8, Quartz Hill
• Ted Watkins Park Pool, 1335 E. 103rd St., Los Angeles
• Don Knabe Park Pool, 19700 Bloomfield Ave., Cerritos

Swim times are separated by dog size so smaller and larger dogs have room to play safely.

Dogs must have a current animal license to enter, and licenses issued by other cities and counties will be accepted. Owners or handlers must be prepared to show proof of a current license and rabies vaccination.

Participants must also bring a completed event form.

Dogs may be off leash on the pool deck only, and aggressive or unruly dogs will be required to leave. At least one adult handler is required for every two dogs admitted, and female dogs in heat are not permitted.

Owners may bring balls, rubber toys and retriever training toys for their dogs. Humans are not allowed in the pool, with the exception of lifeguard staff.

Children younger than 18 must be accompanied by an adult, and dog owners and handlers are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.
