LOS ANGELES, CA — Los Angeles Fire Department personnel were trying Sunday to rescue a person located about 20 feet down a shaft in downtown Los Angeles.

The incident was reported about 5:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of 2469 E. Washington Blvd., between Santa Fe Avenue and the Los Angeles River, according to department spokeswoman Jennifer Middleton.

The person's condition was not immediately known, and it was unclear how events unfolded. A description of the victim was not immediately provided.
