Where's Wilbur's Owner? Viral Runaway Pig Could Soon Go Up For Adoption

The pint-sized pig was captured after a viral street chase and is being held to give its owner time to come forward.

WEST HOLLYWOOD, CA — A pint-sized pig whose sprint through West Hollywood became a viral social media moment this week is resting at the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter and could be available to a new home Thursday if its owner does not come forward.

The pig, dubbed Wilbur by an animal control officer, drew attention after e-bike rider Jamaal Harrison spotted it running through the streets near Fairfax Boulevard around noon Saturday.

Harrison, 37, told the Los Angeles Times he pulled out his phone and began recording while trying to catch the pig. He and another man chased the animal into an alley and briefly thought they had it cornered between two cars before it escaped again.

“That pig’s fast, man,” Harrison recalled telling the Times.

Harrison eventually abandoned the chase. After a friend encouraged him to post the video, he shared it on TikTok, where it quickly drew thousands of likes and attention from news outlets.

Wilbur was eventually corralled and taken to the West Los Angeles Animal Shelter, where the pig was resting comfortably Tuesday.

The shelter will hold Wilbur until Thursday morning to give the owner a chance to claim the animal. If no owner comes forward, the pig will likely be offered through a silent auction, according to an animal control officer.

Anyone interested should arrive at 8 a.m. Thursday at the shelter, 11361 W. Pico Blvd., with a credit card. Prospective owners must also show they have a home suitable for keeping a farm animal.
