• Regional and local controls on groundwater salinity in California's southwestern San Joaquin Valley, United States: Insights from airborne electromagnetic surveys (springer.com) — Groundwater beneath and downgradient of the Lost Hills and nearby oil fields shows complex layers of fresh, brackish, and saline water that standard single-depth maps often miss. Using airborne electromagnetic surveys, researchers mapped salinity in the upper 300 meters, finding shallow saline zones and deeper fresher water that affect how much usable groundwater really exists for agriculture and communities across the southwestern San Joaquin Valley, including the Lost Hills area.
