2. California El Niño Emergency: Statewide Order Suspends the Usual 10% Hotel Price-Gouging Cap (travelerstoday.com) — Malibu residents should know the city's recent coastal emergency sits within a broader statewide El Niño declaration that unusually suspends California's normal hotel price‑gouging cap. The order ramps up highway and flood preparations but leaves winter travelers, including those booking Malibu hotels, without automatic 10% rate protections, making flexible reservations, travel insurance, and local emergency alerts especially important this storm season.
