1. LA homeless set over 12K fires, pushing fire department to brink (amedpost.com) — Malibu has declared a local emergency to speed removal of homeless encampments in its extreme fire-risk zones after vegetation moisture levels fell below a critical safety threshold. For residents, this means the city can act faster to clear camps in canyons and hillsides while the order remains in effect, aiming to reduce wildfire danger as Los Angeles County continues to battle thousands of encampment-related fires.
   

2. High Surf Advisory Issued for Los Angeles and Ventura County Beaches (news-usa.today) — Malibu Coast beaches are under a high surf advisory from Monday 5 a.m. through Tuesday 5 p.m., with 4–7 foot waves, powerful rip currents, and a risk of coastal flooding. Residents and visitors are urged to stay out of the water, avoid rock jetties, protect flood-prone property, and never drive through flooded areas or around barricades as erosion and flooding risks remain elevated.
   

3. Beach Hazards Statement issued September 26 at 7:27PM PDT until September 28 at 5:00AM PDT by NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard CA (keyt.com) — Dangerous surf and rip currents are impacting the Malibu Coast through early Tuesday, with a Beach Hazards Statement already in effect and a Coastal Flood and High Surf Advisory running from Monday morning to Tuesday evening. Expect 4–7 foot waves, strong rip currents, and moderate coastal flooding that could affect parking lots, bike paths, and walkways, so avoid the water and stay off rocks and jetties.
   

4. No. 1 Men's Water Polo Tops No. 13 Pepperdine 16-11 (uclabruins.com) — UCLA's top-ranked men's water polo team handed Pepperdine a 16–11 home loss in Malibu, despite a six-goal performance from Waves standout Hunter Danko. Local fans at Raleigh Runnels Memorial Pool saw the Bruins pull away with a big second- and third-quarter run, as Pepperdine fell to 6–9 heading deeper into the season.
