• Patrick Owen Sullivan (martinezgazette.com) — Longtime Bay Area resident Patrick Owen Sullivan, who once lived in Martinez and whose parents worked here, has died at 66 from complications of Alport's Syndrome. His family recalls his love of nature, tennis, and his children's sports, and invites friends to a Celebration of Life in Rocklin on October 16.
   

• USA Water Polo Announces Rosters for Inaugural 4x4 Open Championships (swimmingworldmagazine.com) — Team USA's women's water polo roster for the new 4×4 World Aquatics championships includes attacker Jewel Roemer, proudly listed from Martinez. Its sheriff says no (mercurynews.com) — Contra Costa County officials meeting in Martinez are weighing whether to adopt a stricter sanctuary-style policy limiting cooperation with federal immigration authorities, even as Sheriff David Livingston insists on continuing some ICE notifications for serious offenders. Immigrant advocates and several supervisors argue that any collaboration fuels fear and distrust, while others worry about releasing repeat offenders back into local communities.
