• Newew Heart Awards McK High seniors scholarships (madriverunion.com) — Five McKinleyville High School seniors just received $500 scholarships from New Heart Community Church to help launch their college and career plans. Funded by congregant donations and the church’s McKinleyville fireworks booth, the long-running program has awarded more than 100 scholarships and over $50,000 to local grads since 2008. 
• McKinleyville High standout Neil Moon signs with CR (times-standard.com) — McKinleyville High basketball standout and Hoopa native Neil Moon has committed to play point guard for College of the Redwoods, keeping his talents close to the McKinleyville community he hopes to inspire. Coaches praise his unselfish play, toughness, and desire to serve as a local role model, while CR prepares for summer workouts and another competitive season.
