Menlo Park Fire Crews Scoop Dog Missing Since July 4 Out From SF Bay

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — A tiny dog apparently bit off more than they could chew last week after surviving the cold San Francisco Bay waters, and, according to authorities, an "aerial assault by an organized gang of seagulls."

Crews with the Menlo Park Fire Protection District responded Friday to Cooley Landing after reports of a dog beelining towards the water, authorities said.

It's unclear why the dog, which has been missing since July 4, according to the Menlo Park Fire Protection District, ran deep into the water, but it just kept swimming.

Video of the rescue shows the pup in the water, several yards off the shoreline. Authorities on a watercraft can be seen approaching the dog, swiftly scooping it up and using a net to keep the canine calm after.

The cat in the tree had the day off," the East Palo Alto Police Department said in a statement Friday. "Instead, Menlo Park Fire responded to: 'One tiny dog.'"

The dog was taken by Animal Control and then reunited with its owners afterwards. It's unclear whether it'll be taking part in any activities requiring the doggy paddle in the near future.
